Day 219 --- VIDEO - SAFE SHREDDING!
Did you finish your taxes just last week taking advantage of the Covid-October 15th extension.. or did you finish them ontime in April or some random locked-inside June afternoon? Still have tons of paper in your home? I spent a few days packing up old files and cleaning out obsolete cabinets. I am required to keep hard copies of all real estate transactions for 3-5 years ---- it was time to get rid of the files from 2004 - 20015!!
There is a FREE document shredding service for all Montgomery County residents
located just off East Gude Drive in Rockville. It's covid-safe too..... you can stay in your car as someone takes out the boxes and bags of papers and loads them into a shredding truck. I thought I had a lot of stuff...... it took under 5 minutes for the whole process!
I highly recommend this service to rid yourselves of piles of useless clutter!
in MoCo - Free Drop Off Shredding Service - Clean Cut Shredding
in DC: Free Shredding on 1st Saturday of each month at Ft. Totten!!!
HOWEVER!!!! I did NOT know I should keep my old tax files -- PERMANTELY!!! I checked online and the guidelines said keep tax files for 7 years -- but I also received this information chart from my accountant - glad I read the chart! I pulled those tax files out of the shredding pile!! Make sure you keep those tax files forever & ever.... your kids will love you for it when they clean out your attic!!!
